Auto Replenishment System (the "Service"). ![]() Thanks to everyone. The following are the terms and conditions ("Terms") for the Canon U.S.A., Inc. I seldom use either of these features they were probably on as a result of some testing i did. Yep Airplane mode was Off and both WiFi and BT were enabled. So I always turn on aeroplane mode if I am not going to be using it for a day or so. My R5 discharges unless you turn off both WiFi and Bluetooth. Maybe there is a need to supply minimal current to remember settings, but otherwise I don't see why the power is not disconnected from the rest of the camera. My first digital camera was a Nikin CoolPix 880 (circa 2000) it was very annoying that when you powered up it would take about 5 seconds to boot, rack the lens out and be ready to take a shot - by that time, the shot was gone. They can do that because the power switch actually seems to just put the camera into a deep sleep mode. For those of us who were used to film SLR's (like the A1 and the AE1) where you could grab the camera, turn it on, and snap the picture. This is how they keep the camera ready to go at the flip of the switch. I know this to be the case because removing or replacing a data card causes the red LED to light briefly and the other day when I was putting a card back in the lens moved as if it was focussing. I have never understood why the on/off switch on my R6 does not actually turn the camera off. Some error state is not anticipated or handled correctly. In any case I would call that a firmware bug. That would suggest error state might be caused by electronic or magnetic interference, but it might be a co-incident as well. One time the camera had been a week without symptoms, but once I turned of the screen it was sitting close to, the symptoms started. I'm not surprised - they likely didn't leave it alone for long enough. The camera took a trip to service with the verdict that they can't find anything wrong with it. And it happens with both my genuine Canon batteries. So adapters or memory card is not required. And it doesn't matter what is or is not attached - I have had it happen with only a battery in it. It may take hours or it may take a week while the camera is just sitting on a table. I have not been able to predict when that happens. Turning the power switch on and of may have momentary effect, but the error will persist. Put the battery in too fast and the behavior resumes. Once it reaches this state, the only thing that helps is pulling the battery out for long enough. And when it does, it keeps turning on and off the rear screen in some kind of error state until the battery is drained. The camera turns itself on spontaneously. I have the same symptoms with RP and it took me awhile to (partially) figure what happens. Haven't had either problem myself, but these might be things to consider. ![]() Others report drain issues with third party adaptors or lens. Some people report having wifi or bluetooth enabled can cause this as they stay on after camera is turned off, and so recommend turning camera to airplane mode when you don't need the connections. I think I have seen something on this here before but i did a search and couldn't turn it up. I have marked today's "offender", so I'll see if the next time (if there is a next time) it occurs on the same one. The Batteries are Canon OEM LP-E6NH batteries I don't know if this is just one particular battery, or it is occurring across the three that I have. The slowly loose charge over a few weeks but i have never seen one completely drain itself in a week. I have been using Canon gear since 2005 or so and never seen this. I have had a couple cases of picking my R5 up and finding the battery dead after sitting in the bag for a week or so unused.
